...On The Other Side.

A blog kept by members of the rock band House of Heroes. Let's talk about all the things we like!

Welcome to 2013! Let’s have some fun!

So this is the new year???  And I feel quite a bit different ;)  Slight adjustment to one of the best Death Cab songs EVER!  From us, to you.

It’s 2013 folks!  I hope that you are all well as you read this.  It’s been a while since we’ve reached out to you guys and caught up.  House of Heroes has been taking it pretty easy these past few months and it’s been pretty great in my opinion!  I (Tim) got married in November to the lovely Stephanie Smith (now Skipper)!  Colin’s been writing some songs (that he’s gonna share with you Columbus folks next Thursday, Jan. 17 at Rhumba Cafe).  And the rest of the guys have just been enjoying friends and family throughout the holiday season.

The break’s been nice, but it’s time to get back to business!  It’s a new season for the band.  With the release of Cold Hard Want, we fulfilled our contractual obligation to Gotee Records.  This means we are quickly approaching “independent” status again!  This is exciting/terrifying/awesome/insane as we have been on one record label or another since 2003!  This fact coupled with all of the down time we’ve had lately has us re-thinking everything related to the band.  We needed an overhaul in our approach to being a band.  Everything has been and is being evaluated and adjusted.

Having said that, I feel like we have a good plan to begin this new year.  Constant touring has left us a little burnt out.  But we still LOVE being on the road and playing shows.  So, we’re going to do one short run a month for the first half of this year in some of our favorite regions of the USA!  Here is the plan:

FEB. (21-28)- Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana area.

MARCH (probably mid-month)- South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama

APRIL- (last week of the month)- Ohio, Michigan, Indiana

MAY- Either North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, DC, Eastern Penn OR Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri

If you want to book the band for any of these runs, please hit us up at hohtour@gmail.com

If you are a college or University and would like to book the band in any of these regions, please contact JR Montes at email@currentmm.com

We will definitely keep you guys updated as this all begins working itself out!  Can’t wait to see some of you this year!

Anonymous asked: will you please release The End is Not the End and Say No More on vinyl already?

We REALLY need to, huh?!  I think The End is Not the End just HAS to come out on vinyl, right?!  We’ll start scheming immediately!

alexvanderspek asked: What is your favorite LYRIC on the new album and why?

My personal favorite lyric on the new album is, “You’ll never find out until your body’s been broken on the canvas, If you belong with the ghosts and the has beens, or if you live on like a little piece of greatness.”  AJ Babcock wrote that, and I think it just sums up the plight of the artist so well.  Any artist, not just musicians.  You have no choice but to pour every ounce of yourself into your art.  It’s the only way to try to express what is in your depths, and a lot of times people get there and they’re scared of what they find.  I know that has happened to me.  But if you can embrace who you really are, the good, the bad and the ugly, then you can create something that resonates with people forever, not just for a feel good, fleeting moment. -Tim

leadtheworldbylight asked: Just want to ask you guys if you know when Cold Hard Want will be released on itunes outside of the US?

It should hopefully be available in most countries now!  There was a glitch in the processing, but I’m told is has been fixed and should be available now.  Can you guys let us know if this is the case?

whoisseanmcguire asked: What was it like working with Paul Moak on "Cold Hard Want"? What did he bring to the table that you didn't have on previous records? What was your favorite thing that he did to your music?

Working with Paul was awesome!  We hadn’t planned on working with him, but we visited his studio and loved it!  We also loved his overall approach and love for 90’s music.  He is all about getting the right vibe and feel for each song.  We really enjoyed his more “old school” approach of playing the songs until we get them right instead of fixing them with a computer.  There are a few parts on the new album where the timing slips just a little bit from the click track, but the band played those parts together as one unit, so we left them alone.  When we heard those little imperfections, Paul would say, “You guys did that!  It sounds like what a band should sound like, so why would we go and mess that up with technology?”
